Duke of Devonshire

Classic corner pub in this once thriving area of Nottingham. Still a significant number of pubs on this stretch of Carlton Road. This is one of the more imposing buildings on the same road as The Bath Inn and The Vine, meeting Carlton Hill at the Duke of Devonshire. We were made welcome by staff and regulars. No real ale so I had a Guiness - served from a can using an "agitator" to give it a proper head!

Update Nov 2013: The pub appears to be closed. No For Sale sign up but no lights on and the door locked at 5:30 on a Thursday evening.

The Moot

A former Chapel on Carlton Road. Interesting "hall" type of building. Has a seating area upstairs. Had a one-bar portable heater on when we arrived. And the young chap serving said we were the first people he'd served in 3 hours apart from his mates who were sitting by the heater. Made very welcome. Had Magpie real ale on. Didn't dare try it! Surely this pub can't survive much longer. A shame.

Earl Howe

Small pub on Carlton Road, Sneinton. An old, traditional pub in this stretch of shops. Struggling when we popped in. Real fire on. A few people gathered around it. Seemed like the family of the person running it. To say it was unspoiled in many many years should paint the picture. Basic. Lager only. Has since closed.
