Great, classic pub! 12 (at least) real ales on. Very busy Friday lunchtime. Annie's Burger Shack franchise here is keeping it very busy indeed! Amazing burgers!

Wheeltappers at the Clock

My Great Grandad Ellis's pub who lived at 137 Birkin Avenue when it was a straight road up from Gregory Boulevard. House now gone. I had to go and find this pub to see if it still existed. It does. And it is thriving! Rumour has it my Great Grandad played cards here and used a mirror to cheat. There's definitely a mirror here that could be just the one. Karaoke on a Sunday afternoon. And sticky 13s. Packed with locals and regulars who travel in. Unspoiled but with a fantastic function room. Landlord Doug Patel made us very welcome and one of the regulars who's been drinking here since he was 15 (now 70) had lots of stories to tell. A favourite! Due to be updated August 2013.

Johnson's Arms

A former Shipstone's pub. Large student clientèle. Unspoilt in many ways although smaller rooms opened up into larger space. Very welcoming staff and awesome beer! And there's a beer garden. Sky sports on projector. All in all a quality, unpretentious pub with a classic local pub atmosphere.
