The Wollaton

Heading back toward the City from Strelley Village we stopped off at The Wollaton. A quality food and ale pub, also showing football but very popular with ale drinkers and diners. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon.

Broad Oak, Strelley Village

The Broad Oak at Strelley Village is a very traditional village pub. Now owned by Greene King it has recently been refurbished and the landlady is clearly very proud and enthusiastic about the new look of the pub. And it shows. Although the real ale had sold out when we went, at least it's popular. And you must book in advance for Sunday lunch.

The Rose, Aspley

The Rose is a classic estate pub. Huge. Built to serve the Aspley estate in Nottingham. It was certainly very busy when we went on Sunday afternoon. Expect Sky Sports and Fosters. The interior character has been maintained - lots of smaller rooms, bars and snugs rather than a large open plan design as you get in more modern pubs.
With all of the pubs in Cinderhill now gone and the Cocked Hat long since flattened, The Rose and The Beacon are two rare sights in this area.
The biggest tell-tale sign of the age it represents is the huge footprint of the pub and car park. You could build a new housing estate on it. But judging by the trade when we went - and the fact that one regular told us there is a by-law preventing the land being used for anything other than a pub - let's hope it stays this way.

Poppy and Pint

The former British Legion building at Lady Bay, this is one of the smarter pubs around featuring regular jazz evenings. The beer is what you'd expect from Castle Rock - great. Although not a typical, traditional "pub" interior due to its heritage it does have a relaxed atmosphere.

The Phoenix

A "modern" estate pub serving the former pit village of Gedling. It has become a mediocre pub serving a few regulars over recent years and nothing worth travelling for. But it has been updated and now looks much smarter outside and in.

Staunton Arms, Staunton

Another trip through work. A classic country pub with rooms. Lovely Harvest Pale and great food.
Smart rooms too.

Peacock

The last remaining pub in Nottingham offering table service in the lounge with a bell. A classic, quality, unspoilt pub serving a range of real ales. And it has an upstairs beer terrace to really escape. A cracking little find.
