The Rose, Aspley

The Rose is a classic estate pub. Huge. Built to serve the Aspley estate in Nottingham. It was certainly very busy when we went on Sunday afternoon. Expect Sky Sports and Fosters. The interior character has been maintained - lots of smaller rooms, bars and snugs rather than a large open plan design as you get in more modern pubs.
With all of the pubs in Cinderhill now gone and the Cocked Hat long since flattened, The Rose and The Beacon are two rare sights in this area.
The biggest tell-tale sign of the age it represents is the huge footprint of the pub and car park. You could build a new housing estate on it. But judging by the trade when we went - and the fact that one regular told us there is a by-law preventing the land being used for anything other than a pub - let's hope it stays this way.
